Dr. Laura S. Busenlehner
NORTHPORT | Dr. Laura S. Busenlehner, age 40, of Northport, died Nov. 12, 2014, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. A private burial will be held at Memory Hill Gardens. Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, is in charge
of arrangements.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Montine Busenlehner and Robert and Dorothy Reaves.
Survivors include her sister, Audra Busenlehner; father, Frank Busenlehner; mother, Bobbie R. Busenlehner; nieces, Allison Katona and Kaitlyn Katona.
Laura was an assistant professor at University of Alabama in Biochemistry since 2007. She obtained her B.S. in biochemistry at Auburn in 1997 and a PhD in Biochemistry and biophysics at Texas A&M in 2003. She did her post-doctorate from 2003 to 2007 at Vanderbilt
University School of Medicine. She was a NIH career award winner in 2009 and named distinguished Teacher Fellow in 2014. She was promoted to assistant professor with tenure in April 2014.
Honorary pallbearers are Patrick Frantom, Christine LeClair, Arina Hadziselimovic, and The Busenlehner Lab Group.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance.
