Born on Nov. 19, 1937
JOHN THOMAS DOBIAS
AUSTWELL - John 'Johnny' Thomas Dobias, 77 of Austwell, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 in Sugarland, Texas. He was born on November 19, 1937 in East Bernard, Texas; son of the late John B. Dobias and Anna (Kopecky) Dobias.
Johnny was raised in East Bernard and graduated from East Bernard High School in 1956. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in 1962 and served in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division from 1963 to 1966. On November 18, 1962 Johnny married the late Doris (Demel) Dobias in Richmond, Texas and the couple spent many happy years raising their family in Brazoria County, Texas.
Johnny worked in the Industrial Electrical Contracting field the majority of his life; starting his own Company in 1985 and managing it until his retirement in 2006.
Johnny is survived by his three children, Joan (Dobias) Davis of Argyle, Texas; John R. Dobias of Missouri City, Texas; and Jennifer (Dobias) Buttitta of Cary, North Carolina; Son-in-Laws Tom Davis and Will Buttitta; Daughter-in-Law Jennifer (Yelle) Dobias; Grandchildren Alex Dobias, Anna Dobias, Case Buttitta, and Rand Buttitta; Sister Jeanette (Dobias) Heller; Brother-in-Laws Joe Heller and David Shumaker; Sister-in-Laws Jane Kana, Carol Matthews, Helen Shumaker, and Susan Vaughn; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Johnny was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors on his property on San Antonio Bay.
A memorial service in Johnny's honor will be held on Monday, December 29th at the American Legion Hall, 8110 U.S. Hwy. 60, East Bernard, TX. 77435 at 1:30pm.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
