Irvin Shelton Snead

Irvin Shelton Snead, age 89, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Irvin was born November 17, 1925 in Oakland, Texas to Eula Mae Allen Snead and John Irvin Snead. 

He enlisted in the Army air Corps during WWII and served as a flight engineer on a B-17 Bomber.

He married Ruby Lee Duke on November 5, 1948 in Grand Prairie, Texas. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1943, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1950.

He started his career in road construction with Texas Construction two days after graduation and worked in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, New Jersey and Pennsylvania before settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he lived for 56 years. He worked for Standard Industries, Snead & Terry Construction, Tulsa Paving Company and Cummins Construction. He served as President of Tulsa Paving for 17 years and worked for Cummins Construction as a consultant and later as President and CEO. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Snead of Farmington, Arkansas, a son Randy Snead of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a daughter Sandra Dayringer and husband David of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, grandson Jason Dayringer and wife Jenni of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, granddaughter Sarah Dayringer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, granddaughter Katie Winkler and husband Thomas of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, great-grandson Atli Dayringer, great-grandson Tommy Winkler and great-grandson Jack Shelton Winkler, sister-in-law Tomagene Snead of Bonham, Texas.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Ray Grubbs and Eula Dean Hutchinson, and two brothers, John Weldon Snead and Thelbert Wayne Snead, and his brother-in-law, Stuart Wayne Duke.

Visitation will be 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, January 19th, Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, OK.

Funeral Service will be 12:30 PM, Monday, January 19th, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, with committal service to follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, OK.

The Snead family would like to invite you to gather with them at the Floral Haven Family Center following the committal service.
