Heaven has gained another angel, a member of The Greatest Generation.
George Edwin Brodie was born on November 2, 1921 in Saratoga, Texas to Frankie Woolum and John William Brodie. George passed early Sunday morning, August 31, 2014.
He graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, Texas in 1939. After high school he enrolled in Texas A&M College where he pursued a Mechanical Engineering degree. When the United States entered World War II, George enlisted in the Army where he served
in the 128th AAA Battalion which was attached to General Patton's Army in the European theater. In 1946 he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Shortly after the war he met and married Ive Diana Hoffman. They returned to College Station, Texas where he completed his education at Texas A&M. George and Ive went on to have 2 children: Kay Louise Brodie and Thomas Scott Brodie.
After college, George started working for JH Rose Truck Line and worked for Rose Truck line for most of his working life. He had attained the position of director when he left Rose to start his own trucking company, B&R Truck Line.
George's children went on to also graduate from Texas A&M and had families of their own. Kay married Terry Delasalle and they have two sons Michael (wife Jeanne) and Matthew Delasalle. Michael and his wife, Jeanne, gave George his first great grandson, Brodie
Delasalle. Tom married Gail Conover and they had a son, Justin, and a daughter, Amanda. Justin and his wife Nikki are currently expecting George's 2nd great grandchild.
In the late 1960s George met and married Annette Morse Brodie. The couple would be married for 33 years until her passing. A few years later, George married Janet Hughes Brodie and they were married for 9 years until her passing in February of 2014.
During his life, George was an active member of the community, in whichever community he lived. He was a long time member and generous contributor to the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M. George also established and funded one of the Sul Ross Scholarships
at Texas A&M University. In his early working life in California, he was elected President of the Montebello Chamber of Commerce where he saw the rapid post-war development of 1959 California.
George later became a member of Woodland Masonic Lodge #1157 Houston Scottish Rite, Houston Arabia Shrine, where he attained the 32nd degree. He was a member of the National Defense Transportation Association and served in various positions including its Houston

George was also a member of the First Methodist Church and regularly attended the Adelphi Sunday School Class.
In his Houston neighborhood of Lazybrook, the Lazybrook Civic Club referred to George as the Ultimate Volunteer, a regular "Mr. Lazybrook". His numerous contributions included:
Citizens on Patrol (George set up the unit's radio base station)
