Jimmy Cannon Hartt

Graveside services for Jimmy Cannon Hartt, age 86, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday,
April 12, 2014 at Colonial Gardens Cemetery, Marshall, Texas. Visitation will be held at
1:00 p.m. Saturday at Eastern Hills Church of Christ, 2705 East Travis, Marshall, Texas.
Jim, as his friends called him, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 9, 2014 in
Marshall, Texas. Officiating will be Keith Hodges and D.W. McClendon of the Eastern
Hills Church of Christ.
Jim was born on February 25, 1928 in Sherman, Texas, the son of F.L. and Ruth McCraw
Hartt. He grew up in Farmersville, Texas and graduated high school there in 1944. He
attended Texas A&M University, and graduated with his Bachelors and M. Ed. degrees
from East Texas State University.
Jim married Mary Jane Cagle of Commerce, Texas on July 15, 1950, and they were
blessed with 63 years together before his departure to be with his Lord. Jim and Mary
Jane were members at Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Marshall, Texas. Jim had a
rewarding career for 34 years with Thiokol Corporation, Longhorn Division in Karnack,
Texas. He said the people he worked with at Thiokol made it a privilege and a special
place to work. Jim retired in 1989, and he and Mary Jane moved to Shadowood Lake on
the outskirts of Marshall.
Jim was active in various community services in Marshall. He served as Scoutmaster of
Troup 209, earning the Silver Beaver Award. He also served as President of the Harrison
County United Way, President of Metro Rotary Club, board member of Marshall Chamber
of Commerce, and three term member of the Marshall City Commission.
Jim enjoyed golfing and bowling with his Thiokol-Longhorn friends, and participated in
both league activities for many years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, a daughter, Susie Hartt Bradford and husband
Jack of Dimmitt, Texas; three sons, Steve Hartt and wife Karen of Tyler, Mark Hartt andwife Carol of Marshall, and Jimmy Hartt and wife Allyson of Marshall; grandchildren Laura
Bradford Chavira and husband David of Dimmitt, Sarah Bradford McClure and husband
Zack of Dimmitt, Amy Hartt and Sam Hartt of Ft. Worth, Ben Krebs and wife Taylor of
Tyler, John Mark Hartt of Marshall, Scott Hartt of Longview, Megan Hartt of Las Vegas,
Nevada, and Mitchell Hartt and wife Lindsey of Louisville, Kentucky. He is also survived
by three great grandchildren, Kai, Nathan and Drake. Jim was preceded in death by
parents F.L. Hartt and Ruth McCraw Hartt of Farmersville, Texas, and his very special
brother-in-law Carl Hathaway of Dallas. Carl's wife Betty, Mary Jane's sister, survives
him. Also surviving Jim are his three sisters, Pat McAnelly and husband Jim of Houston,
Mary Jo Archer and husband Dan of Arvada, Colorado, and Sallye Ortiz and husband Gil
of Denton, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim is also survived by his
beloved dog, Honey.
Pallbearers will be John Mark Hartt, Sam Hartt, Scott Hartt, Mitchell Hartt, Ben Krebs,
David Chavira, and Zack McClure.

be appreciated because Jim loved all nature, especially the beauty of God’s creation.
