Kenneth Howard Nelson, 56, of Bryan, TX passed away on March 7, 2014. Ken was born in Houston, TX on November 17, 1957.Ken graduated from Katy High School in 1976. In 1980, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Engineering Technology, and
he carried a love of Texas A&M throughout his entire life. He later earned a Masters in Information Technology from Capella University in 2008.
In 1998, Ken returned to the Texas A&M campus to become the Chief Engineer at KAMU Television and radio station, a job that he considered to be his dream job. He also freelanced for many television networks including ESPN and Fox Sports. He helped put events
such as Super Bowls, World Series, and The Olympics on television. He considered his freelancing as more of a hobby than actual work.
Ken was active in the community through frequent volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic School athletic events and playing music for The Theatre Company. Another passion of his was refereeing high school football games.
Other hobbies included motorcycles and in particular, his beloved Harley Davidson Road King. He was also an avid reader and talented musician who played five instruments. He enjoyed Texas A&M athletics in his spare time, but perhaps the greatest joy of his
life was being a husband, father and grandfather.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Kathy Nelson; son, Drew Nelson; daughter, Elizabeth Magee and her husband, Brandon; a granddaughter, Kennedy, whom he lovingly referred to as “Junior”; mother, Nancy Nelson; and two sisters, Jami Nelson and Jennifer
Repass. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Nelson.
A time for family to welcome visitors will begin at 12: 00 noon with a memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 10th at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan, TX. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Joseph Catholic School, 600 S. Coulter,
