Dr. Russell S. Stanger, Jr.
(October 6, 1922 - February 27, 2014)

Dr. Russell S. Stanger, Jr. of Brazoria, Texas passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Brazosport Regional Health System. He was born October 6, 1922 in Angleton, Texas to Russell Sharpe Stanger and Cecil Weems Stanger. He was a Dr. of Veterinary Medicine in Brazoria for over 64 years; a lifelong area resident of Brazoria; member of First United Methodist Church of Brazoria; and also a member of the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Private family graveside services were held 1:00pm, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Brazoria Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Debbie Measells and Rev. Ricky Georgetown officiating.

A memorial service will be held on March 15, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Brazoria Heritage Foundation Old School Auditorium with Rev Ricky Georgetown and Rev Debbie Measells officiating. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons; Caleb Stanger, John Stanger, Cardiff Babb and David Derstine; nephews, Dr. Fred Griffin, Dr. Parry Lauzon, Bob Baze, and Joe Lostracco.

 Russell is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathryn Adrian Beal Stanger of Brazoria; son, Russell S. Stanger, III and wife, Mary of Brazoria; daughters, Dr. Kittie Sue Stanger of DeRidder, LA; and Camille Ann Babb of Brazoria; sister, Zulieka Griffin of Lufkin; grandchildren, David Derstine and wife, Susan; Karianne Derstine; Caleb Russell Stanger and wife, Jenay; Cardiff C. Babb; and Rev. John Russell Stanger; along with great-grandchildren, Luke Derstine, Joshua Stanger, Jesse Stanger and Jenna Stanger and many nieces, Ruth Ann Lostracco and husband, Joe; and Margaret Baze and husband, Bob; nephews, Dr. Fred Griffin and wife, Lisa, and Dr. Parry Lauzon and wife, Sidney along with many other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Ruth Stanger Lauzon.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Brazoria.
