Biography : Louis Milton Caplan, beloved husband, father, brother, friend and Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away on December 5, 2013. Louis was born to Anna and Maurice Caplan on February 23, 1929 in Jacksonville, Texas . He graduated
from San Jacinto High School in Houston and Texas A&M College. At Texas A&M Louis served with G-2 Squadron of The Corps of Cadets 1951 and earned his degree in Industrial Engineering. While at A&M Louis led Hillel Sabbath services for the small Jewish student
body. For his years of service, the Hillel presented Louis with his Senior Aggie Ring, leading to his life long support of the University and the Hillel organization. He married Sandra Jean Josephson of Snyder, Texas and served in the Air Force during the
Korean War. After his tour of duty, Lieutenant Caplan and Sandra returned to Houston with their baby daughter Leigh, where Lou began a long and productive career in the mechanical contracting business. He founded Ideal Engineering, Inc. and was immensely proud
when his son, Stanley Caplan, joined the business and worked together as partners. His career included a truly committed involvement with the Mechanical Contractors Association of Houston, where he served as President of the Houston chapter. Lou's love of
sailing spanned more than 30 years. Friends, relatives and even strangers took a turn at the helm on “The Slow Boat.” Lou coached little league baseball teams, was the first advisor to Isadore Shapiro AZA named for his friend, and was a founding member of
Congregation B'rith Shalom. Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sandra. When he married Janice Sellinger, he considered himself truly blessed to find the second “love of his life." Janice truly cared for him in sickness and in health. He is
survived by his wife Janice Sellinger Caplan, daughter Leigh Caplan Wilk and her husband Andy, son Stanley Caplan and his wife Linda, grandchildren Melinda Wilk Grunewald and her husband Sebastian, Evan Wilk and his wife Lauren, Samantha Caplan and her fiancé
Graham Schlanger, Michael Caplan, Alexander Caplan and great grandchildren, Patrick Grunewald, Sterling Grunewald and Holden Wilk. He is also survived by his brother Phillip Caplan and his wife Barbara, his sister Barbara Caplan Pauly and her husband Allen.
He was known as lovable Uncle Louie to numerous nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and sister,Bella Rae. Lou also leaves behind many old and dear friends, including the remaining member of G-2 Squadron and his Buddies of more than
80 years. As Papa, he was proud of each of his family's accomplishments. As a man, he exemplified honor and integrity. His great big Caplan smile will be sorely missed. Gig' em Aggie. Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held on December
