Fred R. Buenrostro

Fred R Buenrostro passed away on June 24, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. He was born July 28, 1921, in Dallas Texas. He was the only child of Federico Buenrostro and Mary Rose Buenrostro.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth Petty Buenrostro, and one of his sons, David Buenrostro. He leaves behind son Fred R. Buenrostro Jr. of Sacramento, CA; daughter Mary R Buenrostro and her husband Paul Witthoeft of Dallas, TX; son James N Buenrostro and his wife Fe Buenrostro of San Luis Obispo, CA; daughter Linda L Booth and her husband Joe Booth of Bartlett, TN; son Paul R Buenrostro of San Leandro, CA; and daughter Martha Buenrostro and her husband Jim Young of Salem OR. His six grandchildren are Samuel Bohon and his wife Maurena Ellis of Saginaw, TX; Sean S Buenrostro of San Luis Obispo, CA; Jennifer Buenrostro of San Diego, CA; Kathryn Booth of Bartlett, TN; Elizabeth Booth of Bartlett, TN and Byron Birss of Salem, OR. He had one great-granddaughter, Areana Elise Bohon of Saginaw, TX.
Fred attended Alamo School, Colonial Elementary, Brown Elementary & Dallas Technical High School.
In 1938, Fred was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in Reserve Officer Training Corps. He was a cadet from the spring of 1938 until he graduated in January 1940 as a cadet major. After high school, Fred attended Draughons Business College to learn shorthand and typing so that when he went to A&M, he would be able to take notes easier.
Fred took some manufacturing training courses at Fair Park after graduation and did various jobs for North American, including a job analyst (time study analyst). In September of 1944, Fred left to attend Texas A&M to major in Aeronautical Engineering. He was the oldest freshman on campus in the corps. He stayed in college until the summer of 1945 when he had to report to Dallas for a physical for the draft. A recruiter placed him in the Marines due to the jobs he had done previously. Only 1 man out of every 100 were placed in the Marines. Fred was sent to San Diego, CA on October 17, 1945. In San Diego, he was assigned to, "tell the new Marines how and when to do everything, like a mother would, except he did not love them."
In 1946 Fred came back to Dallas and attended North Texas Agricultural College, now UT Arlington. Fred met Ruth Petty while attending Pearl & Bryan Church of Christ in 1948. They married in March of 1949. Fred and Ruth moved their family of 6 kids, 1 dog and 1 cat to California in 1958. While there, 1 more girl was born. Fred worked as a draftsman for a variety of companies. In 1994 Fred and Ruth moved back to Texas due to Ruth's health.
