HAWLEY
Al Hawley, Jr., 91, died 4/26/13. He was an active member at Christ Episcopal Church, the SA Aggie Club, and an avid golfer. Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean, and is survived by his two sons, Al III, and Frank. He has 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Services will be at Christ Episcopal on Belknap, 10:00AM 5/1/13.

Alfred De Witt Hawley
    March 10, 1922  -  April 26, 2013

Alfred DeWitt Hawley, Jr., passed peacefully on the morning of April 26, 2013, at the age of 91, surrounded by loving family.

Born March 10, 1922, in Dallas Texas, Al was a long-time resident of San Antonio, after his family moved when he was in Jr. High. He graduated from Jefferson High School in ’39 and attended Texas A&M College, class of ’43. After attending flight school at St. Mary’s, he joined the Army Air Corps and was in the Air Offensive-Europe campaign from Thurleigh RAF base, England. He flew B-17’s with the 306th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force on numerous missions over Germany. For a time after the war he flew P-51s with the Texas Air National Guard at Kelley AB, San Antonio. He received various decorations including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

Al was a parishioner at Christ Episcopal Church since it was built and an active member of the San Antonio A&M Club. He was also a very long time member and director of the San Antonio golf association.

He worked with his father in commercial construction for many years; one of their many projects included the foot bridge across the San Antonio River behind the Palacio del Rio and the original renovation of the Carriage House at Christ Episcopal Church. He then spent many years as a respected commercial realtor, until his retirement when he dedicated himself full-time to golf.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Evva Jean Hawley, who passed in January of 2000. Al is survived by his two sons, Alfred D. Hawley, III, (A&M class of ’74) and Frank M. Hawley, (class of ’76), two daughter-in-laws, Teri Hawley and Patti Hawley and his twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him as a kind-hearted, deeply loyal, compassionate and honest man who never turned down a good debate or a golf game.

Services will be held at Christ Episcopal on 510 Belknap Place, 78212 at 10 am on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. The 19th hole will be held at 4518 Winlock, 78228 at 2 pm.
