Albert Dulaney Schutz was born May 22, 1918 in El Paso, TX. to F. E. Schutz and Willie Dulaney and died April 26, 2013 at the age of 94. After the end of WWI, his father resigned his commission in the Army and moved his family to San Antonio, where he established his business. Albert and his twin brother, Charles attended public schools, including Mark Twain Junior High and Thomas Jefferson High School from which they graduated in 1936. They both attended and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1940 and both accepted commissions as Lieutenants in the Army. On March 6, 1943 Albert and Sue Rucker were married in Dallas. Albert served in Europe in WW II, he attended the Army Command and General Staff College in 1955; he served in Vietnam in 1956; the Army General Staff and the Joint Staff in the Pentagon from 1957-1960; and attended the Army War College, where he graduated in 1961 with a Master's Degree in International Relations awarded by George Washington University in a joint program with the Army War College. He was promoted as a Colonel in 1961. From 1962-1970 he served on the staffs of Army Command and General Staff College, the Army Air Defense Command, the Army Combat Development Command and as Coordinator of Army Reserve and National Guard Units in the state of Kansas. After retiring in 1970, he worked for a year in The Montonari School for emotionally disturbed children in Florida and moved to Austin and served for seven years in the Governor's Coordinating Office. In 1978 he and Sue moved to San Antonio to enjoy full retirement. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Sue Rucker Schutz; the family of Charles Dulaney Schutz, his nephew, William W. Boykin and niece, Elizabeth Boykin Newswanger, both of Virginia; and his grandchildren, Steffanie Schutz England, Joseph Schutz, Kirsten Janeczko, Stacie Scoville and 10 great-grandchildren, all in Utah. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, May 3, 2013 with a public Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at the Windcrest Chapel of The Church of Latter Day Saints, 8801 Midcrown Dr. Windcrest, TX 78239.
