Donald Lee Brending
Age 64 of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2012. He was born in Bryan, Texas on December 24, 1947 to William and Irene Brending (deceased).
Don graduated from high school in 1965 and attended Texas A & M University (BS) and the University of Houston (MA). He had also served in the Army (Vietnam Era Vet). He worked for the Texas Department of Human Services, (Child Protection in Houston), Mental Health Caseworker in Andrews, TX, and was a Mental Health Case Manager in Douglas County, OR.
Don enjoyed talking politics with friends and considered himself a “Yellow Dog Democrat.” He was generous to anyone needing a hand and touched many lives with his kindness. Don had a passionate love of music, especially the Blues and was a “dead head” to the end. He spent his last night listening to live music with friends and family, his favorite pastime. Don also loved traveling to the Oregon Coast and the southwest, especially New Mexico and the Big Bend National Park in Texas. The family is planning a memorial in Terlingua, TX in the spring where his ashes will be scattered. “In the arms of his beloved desert, surely he rests in peace.”
Don was an avid, lifetime fan of Texas A & M Aggies and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Oregon Ducks, and not to forget baseball and the ‘Stros.
Don is survived by his beloved life companion of 12 years, Diane Brending; stepsons, Gabriel Stephens of Roseburg, and Damon Stephens of Eugene; sisters, Shirley (Bob) Kochmit if Shawville, VA, Judy Kingman of Ft. Worth, TX; brother William “Bill” (Linda) Brending of Baytown, TX; grandchildren, twins Faith and Hope, and Grace Stephens of Coos Bay, and Olivia Stephens of Yuba City, CA; adored mother-in-law Bernice Kaufman-Fry whom he lovingly helped care for, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his faithful animal companions, dog Marley and cat Lyle. Don was preceded in death by his sister Joyce.
