Travis Eugene Meyer
March 28, 1927 - October 11, 2012

Travis E. Meyer, 85, lifetime resident of Wichita Falls, passed away at his home, Thursday, October 11, 2012.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park with full military honors under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, October 15, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Travis was born March 28, 1927 in the Friberg Community to Johnny and Pauline Meyer. After graduating from Wichita Falls High School in 1944 and attending Tarlton for 1 semester, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1950 where he earned his commission through the Reserve Officers Training Corps. He remained a proud Aggie throughout his life and always wore his virtually slick and smooth A&M ring.

Travis was called to active duty as an artillery officer during the Korean Conflict and was shot down twice by the enemy. Retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Reserve Corps, he continued to serve as the Sheppard AFB agronomist until his retirement from Civil Service in 1987.

He was an active Master Mason and an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he was very involved in Methodist Men, Sunday school, visitation of homebound members and many other volunteer jobs. His lasting contribution to the church was using his argronomy and landscaping skills in designing and maintaining the church grounds. His ultimate purpose was always spreading the Word of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Mary, two daughters, Vicki Walker and husband Brent and Angela Hale and husband Greg, along with 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Wichita Falls Humane Society or Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
