Dr. Charles H. Cox, Jr.
September 29, 1921 - June 18, 2012
Dr. Charles H. Cox, Jr., age 90, of Temple died Monday, June 18, 2012 in Round Rock. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 19, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Young officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation
will start at 10:00 AM prior to the service.
Dr. Cox was born on September 29, 1921 in The Grove to Charles H. Cox, Sr. and Gladys Pearl Trimmier Cox. They moved to Temple in 1929. He graduated from Temple High School in 1937, Temple Junior College in 1938 and Texas A&M in 1941. He married Sophia Knight
Stockton on September 6, 1942 in Temple. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1944. He served in the U. S. Army as a Captain. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Temple where he sang in the church choir for 50
years and also served as a deacon. He played in the Temple High School band and the Texas A&M Marching Band. He was a past president of the Temple Lions Club where he had been a member over 50 years. He was a member of Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity and AOA
honorary medical society. Dr. Cox was a family practice physician in Temple for 35 years retiring in 1982. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and games especially Bridge and 42.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sophia Cox, brother, John T. Cox and son-in-law, Robert McBurney, Jr. Survivors include one son, Dr. Charles H. (Chuck) Cox, III and wife, Kathy of Tyler and four daughters, Rebekah Matthews and husband, Wade,
Emily McBurney and Andrea Marshall all of Temple and Melissa Pulley and husband, Nickey of Athens, 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Even Greater Things, c/o First Baptist Church in Temple.
