Robert W. "Bob" Adams, 69, of Conroe, formerly of College Station, passed away in his sleep Monday, April 30, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. Bob may have had only 69 years on this earth, but he lived his life to the fullest up to the end. Bob's family invites you to join them in a celebration of his life this Saturday, May 12, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Village Country Club (formerly known as Panorama Country Club), 73 Greenbriar Dr., in Conroe.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman his entire life. Beginning as a young boy, "Bobby" and his best friend, Bob White, never passed up a log to turn over looking for snakes and bugs underneath or catching frogs in tanks near their homes in old College Station known as The Knoll. He was a pretty good little leaguer and then an excellent receiver in high school for A&M Consolidated. He learned to play golf in those early years and became a darn good "B" player. His antics on the golf course in later years are big time.
Bob was a proud Aggie, class of '65 - Whoop!
He was also involved in civic activities beginning with the College Station-Bryan Jaycees and served in various positions on the board. He made many lifelong friends there and the stories from those days are legendary. After moving to Conroe to open Adams Transfer & Storage, Bob became a member of the Conroe Noon Lions Club and was a member for 37 years.
In 1972 Bob started Adams Transfer with his father to take advantage of the expanding area around Conroe and North Houston. It was a great decision as the area was ripe for a new mover. Bob was an extremely hard worker and his integrity in running his business the right way led to much success. His high standards for excellence and treating his customers with respect also led to many awards with North American Van Lines as their local agent and the Houston Area Better Business Bureau where Adams Transfer won several awards including the BBB's most prestigious award, The Pinnacle.
Bob was very involved with the Southwest Movers Association and was its chairman for four years and its chairman of their foundation for a year. He was also a recipient of their Heritage award of which he was extremely proud.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Bobby and Larry Adams, who helped tremendously with the success of Adams Transfer. He is also survived by his father, Homer Adams of College Station, a sister, Pam Brown and her husband, Jim, of Azle, TX, Jack Adams of College Station, another sister, Margaret Henderson and her husband, Tom, of Starkville, MS, three grandsons, Colton, Blaine and Garrison Adams of Conroe and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
