Elizabeth Young Minor, age 93, passed away [Sunday], April 22, 2012. She had been a member of Richards Memorial UMC and St. Andrew UMC. She was a science teacher in the public school system for 61 years, including Blount and Workman Middle Schools in Pensacola,
FL. She received a Master's degree in Geology from Texas A&M, had Chemical Warfare training at Georgia Tech, and served as a chemical warfare inspector during WWII. She also taught at the International School in Tehran, Iran. She was the great-great-great
niece of General Andrew Pickens.
She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Walter Young, Ruth Tucker and Luther Young.
Survivors include her two children, Betty Rutherford Townley and Jim Minor (Pat); four grandchildren, Robert Phillip Rittner, James Ross Graydon (Jamie), Robyn Minor Smith (James), and Andrew Young Graydon; five great grandchildren, Brittney Graydon, Kaden,
Elise, Simon and Wiley Smith; niece, Nancy Fortner; three nephews, Richard Tucker, Larry and Ken Young.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 100 Beverly Pkwy with Pastor Joe Mullen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL.
