Cyrus "Cy" Freeman, 91, went to be with God on April 23, 2012 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation
will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Cy was born on January 21, 1921 in Putnam, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1949. He lived in Tulia, Texas from 1952-1999 where he owned and operated Freeman Irrigation Company. He was active in the First
Baptist Church of Tulia serving as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. Cy moved to Abilene in 1999 and was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of the First Baptist Church.
His parents, Cyrus W. Freeman Sr. and Bertie McCord Freeman, 4 sisters and 3 brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Doris; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Sandy Freeman of Abilene and Cliff and Kathie Freeman of Farmington, New Mexico; Grandchildren, Clint Freeman and wife Erica, Corey Freeman and wife Megan and Katie Freeman;
great grandchildren, Rebekah, Hannah, Joannah, Lydiah, Brody and Evan; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels, 717 N. 10th St., Abilene, Texas
