James Olan McWhorter
Services for James Olan McWhorter, 71, of Flint will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bullard with Bishop Brent Hill officiating.

Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. McWhorter passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, after a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer.

He was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Gilmer to Neal Odell "Jack" and Verma Wreatha Smith WcWhorter.

James was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bullard. He graduated from New Diana High School, Kilgore Junior College and Texas A&M University and was a chemical engineer. James held the position of principal process engineer with Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I), where he was employed for more than 30 years. During his nearly 50-year career, he worked throughout the U.S. and in over 22 different countries. He enjoyed his travels and loved sharing his knowledge with others, particularly, new engineers. James was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen L. McWhorter; and sister, Alverine McWhorter.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Bonnie Kay Stripland McWhorter; son, Scott Wayne McWhorter and wife Jettie of Flint; daughter, Julie Kay Hardie and husband John of Houston; grandchildren, Krystle Lindhjem and husband Rune of Trondheim, Norway, Austin McWhorter of Flint, and Jack and Jamie Hardie of Houston; sister, Faye Tefteller of Gilmer; and numerous other loving relatives and lifelong friends.

Pallbearers will be Bill Tullis, Boyd Hamilton, Gene Tannery, Joe Reaves, Martel Shuttlesworth and Vernon
Stanley.
