Michael Chris Kaitson
Michael Chris Kaitson was born in Houston, Texas, on May 26, 1990, and entered into eternal life on March 13, 2012.
Michael was an active member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where he attended Sunday School from pre-school through his senior year in high school. He was a member of GOYA (Greek Orthodox Youth of America). Michael participated in the Original Greek
Festival dance program from 2nd grade throughout his high school years. For three years, he attended Camp Emmanuel in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for one week each summer. Since the age of twelve, Michael participated in the church basketball league.
Michael graduated from Bellaire High School (BHS) in the top 20% of his class in 2009. While at BHS, he participated in Basketball, Lacrosse and Swimming. He represented the United States as a Basketball Sports Ambassador at the Youth World Friendship Games
in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2007.
Extracurricular activities included BHS Basketball Team, BHS Varsity Lacrosse; BHS Swim Team; Anatares (BHS Service Project); Bellaire Men's Club, who conduct year-round community service projects; BHS After-Prom Committee; working the phone bank for the SPCA
Telethon; AAU Select Traveling Basketball Teams; snowboarding trips to California, Colorado, Nevada and Utah; and surfing in Costa Rica, Mexico and Hawaii.
Michael was a CPR Certified Lifeguard and worked at the City of Bellaire Aquatics Center, where he assisted in swim meets, taught swim lessons and was responsible for pool and area maintenance. He also was a member of the Bellaire Barracudas swim team. He enjoyed
surfing, rollerblading, snowboarding, and skateboarding. One summer during his high school years, he taught rollerblading and skateboarding to youth in Tripoli and Athens, Greece. Michael was a certified basketball referee and
enjoyed refereeing youth basketball games.
Michael also loved music. He played the piano and the guitar; and for three years, he was a Drummer in the Saint Thomas Episcopal School Pipe and Drum Marching Band.
Michael received many honors and awards during his young life, among them: BHS Scholastic Honor Roll (3 years); BHS Lacrosse Leadership Award; BHS Lacrosse Offensive Midfielder Award; Congressional Student Leadership Award sponsored by Lead America for Academic
Excellence, Extracurricular Involvement and Leadership Potential; National Youth Leadership Forum nominee; BHS Basketball; BHS Swim Team; BHS Lacrosse Varsity Team; AGOC Basketball Team; one of 100 high school seniors selected to participate in the 2008 SEAL
Conference at Texas A&M.
Michael was currently studying prelaw at Texas A&M University. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and served as treasurer of his pledge class. He was a member of the Son's of Pericles and the Order of AHEPA.
With his varied interests, Michael touched many people throughout his life. He will continue to live in many hearts.
Michael has now been united with his paternal grandparents, Areta and Martin Kaitson, who had departed this life before he was born. He leaves to mourn his untimely passing his parents, Angie and Chris Kaitson; sister, Katherine Kaitson; brother, Dean Kaitson;
maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Gus Kanakis; aunt, Patti Kanakis; uncle, Alex Kanakis; aunt and uncle, Jane and Robert Cooley; and cousins, Sarah Cooley and Sylvia Cooley. Michael also leaves behind extended family and many friends. He will be missed.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Trisagion Prayers at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 West Alabama Street. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon on March 19 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511
Yoakum Blvd. with graveside services following at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to AHEPA, P.O. Box 10393, Houston, TX 77206, where a scholarship will be established in Michael's memory. Love your child, kiss your child, hug your child every day.
