DR. LOUIS F. BOENING
YOAKUM - Dr. Louis F. Boening, 78, of Yoakum, passed away on March 12, 2012. He was born June 3, 1933, on the Hochheim Prairie in DeWitt County.
Dr. Boening graduated from N. R. Crozier Technical High School in Dallas in 1950 and Arlington State College in 1953. He graduated from the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine in 1957. He married Aileen Dreyer Boening in 1957, and they established their
home near Yoakum.
Dr. Boening practiced veterinary medicine for over fifty-four years in public health and zoonosis medicine as well as large and small animal private practice. He established and operated the Texas Meat Inspection Training School, the only full time state inspection
training facility in the United States from 1970 to 1992. He currently was practicing part-time small animal veterinary medicine. He was a member of the Golden Crescent Veterinary Medical Association, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. He and Mrs.
Boening operated a cattle ranching business in DeWitt County.
Over the past forty-two years, he served Yoakum National Bank as a director, president, CEO, and Chairman of the Board and was currently serving as Chairman Emeritus. He was featured in a 2005 article in the Texas Banking Association magazine for all of his
banking accomplishments.
During his lifetime, Louis Boening valued service to his community of Yoakum and the area. He had served on the Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce as a board member and past president. He was a long time member and past president of the Yoakum Rotary Club, and
served on the Yoakum Economic Development Corporation Board and the Yoakum Industrial Foundation. He was also a past president of the Yoakum School Board and he was the 1994 recipient of the Paul F. Gustwick Community Service Award. He was a member of Holy
Cross Lutheran Church and had served on church council.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Aileen; his daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Sandra and William Bergey of Yoakum; and two grandsons, Bryce and Weston Bergey of Yoakum.
Visitation from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jonathan Mielke officiating. Interment at Yoakum Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
