Henry Schodde
Schodde, Henry David (Hank) 88, of Dallas, Texas, died on February 15, 2012. He was born in Moulton, Texas on March 8, 1923, the eldest son of Rudolph and Edna Schodde. After graduating from Breckenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas, he joined the Navy.
He served 22 months in the Pacific during World War II, serving first on the U.S.S. Wright and later on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Saratoga. He was called back to service during the Korean War to serve as lieutenant commander. He was the coordinator of communications
for fleet tankers. Throughout his naval career, Hank attended Texas A&M University and Indiana University, receiving his degree in economics from Colgate University. He earned his master's degree at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Hank had a 38 year career with Southwestern Bell and retired as Executive Vice President of Personnel. After retirement, he served Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas as both a board member and, later, the chairman of the board. He joined Texas Healthcare Trustees
in 1991 and served as president from 1997-1998. In 2001, he was named the recipient of the Founder's Award, the highest honor awarded by THT.
Hank served as chairman and president of the United Fund Campaign in both Dallas and San Antonio. He served on numerous bank boards including the Frost National Bank-San Antonio, First National Bank-Dallas, Inter/First Corporation-Dallas, Metropolitan Savings
and Loan-Dallas, and St. Louis County Tower Corporation and County National Bank. He was a 32nd level Mason. Hank was blessed with leadership skills and gave his time and talent to make our community a better place. He loved spending time at his ranch with
his family and tending to his cattle and horses.
Hank is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Tuthill Schodde; daughters, Dana Schodde Bell and Amy Schodde Carlstrom; son-in-law, Dr. Terry Bell; grandchildren, Adam and Janette Donovan Bell, Emily Bell, Derek Carlstrom, and Kristen Carlstrom.
A private service was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation to benefit the Presby Fund., 8440 Walnut Hill Ln. LB6 Suite 800, Dallas, TX 75231.
