Dr. Joseph Michael Davidson
Joseph Michael Davidson, age 70, died January 28, 2012 at his home. Michael was born January 15, 1942, in Jacksonville, Texas, to Joseph Reuben and Helen Blakemore Davidson. He lived with his family in Athens, Texas, while his father, a prominent highway construction
developer, built roads along the Gulf Coast as part of a Naval Base set up for the defense of the Gulf of Mexico during World War 11.
In 1947, Michael moved with his family to Terrell, Texas, where he attended public school. He received numerous awards in Latin, science, choir, and band and was a member of the National Honor Society during his high school years. In addition, Michael played
baseball and basketball. During the summers he worked with his father's highway crew and the State Highway Department in Kaufman, Texas.
Michael's interest in mathematics and science led him to the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1965.
Michael married Barbara Sue Wilson of Waxahachie, Texas on June 15, 1963. After Michael graduated from Texas University they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where Michael worked for Reynolds Metals Company in production and process control. While there he developed
skills in mathematical analysis and computer programming which formed his future career.
Michael began a graduate program offered by Texas A&M University, and after three and a half years of night courses, moved to College Station, Texas, where he completed his Master's Degree and then his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1974.
While in the Bryan/College Station, he and Barbara had two fine sons:
Joseph Michael Davidson, 11, born October 1, 1970, and Daniel Blake Davidson, born June 8, 1972.
The Davidson family moved to Bartlesville, where Michael was employed first with Applied Automation, a division of Phillips Petroleum Company, before moving to the Phillips Company Research and Development. In 1988, he and his family moved to Houston, Texas
where he worked at Simcon Engineering. They returned to Bartlesville in 1989. He worked in several organizations of Phillips Petroleum, including the Health, Safety and Environmental Division, Research & Development, and Corporate Engineering. Michael retired
in 1999. Michael served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church, and for over 20 years, served as a teacher of a men's Sunday School class.
Joseph Michael Davidson is survived by his wife, Barbara, his son, Mike Davidson and daughter in law, Lisa Davidson, four grandchildren, Morgan, Hannah, Adam, and Sadie Davidson of Bartlesville. He is survived by his son, Danny Davidson and daughter in law,
Suzanne, three grandchildren, Evan, Sean and Erin Davidson of Parker, Colorado. Both sons, both daughters-in-law and each grandchild have blessed and enriched Michael's life and were absolutely loved and cherished by him.
Michael is also survived by his mother, Helen Davidson, of Bartlesville, two brothers, Jack Davidson of El Dorado Hills, California, and Jerry Davidson or Arvada, Colorado. Michael wished to thank his mother and brothers for their lifelong love and support.
Michael is survived by several sisters in law, brothers in law and other family members, including many beloved nieces and nephews. He wished to thank them all for their love, friendship and for being such a good audience for his humor.
Michael wished to thank his many friends at First Baptist, especially the men in his Sunday School class, who faithfully loved and supported him before and throughout his illness. He is survived by numerous other friends whom he wished to express his gratitude
for their enrichment of his life.
Michael's life was celebrated Thursday, February 2, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Bartlesville, led by Dr. David Wilson and Reverend Jerry Wilson, senior pastor and senior adult pastor, (respectively) of Southcrest Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas. Special
music was provided by Eugenia Wilson Barry of Waxahachie, Texas; Jerry Howell Wilson, worship pastor of First Baptist Church of Little Rock, Arkansas; Larry East of Bartlesville; and from First Baptist of Bartlesville, Wade Daniel, worship pastor, Francine
Perry, pianist and Don Cone, organist.
