BAYTOWN - William Thomas Burge passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, in his home with his children by his side.
A memorial service is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Memorial Baptist Church Chapel in Baytown.
A beloved and active member of the Baytown community, he was born on Feb. 15, 1933, in Fort Smith, Ark. He moved to Paris with his parents, Ben and Geneva Burge, and his three siblings, Otis, Mary and Frances, now deceased. While in Paris High School, he received
many awards including "Most Handsome," "Best All-Around" and "Senior Favorite." It was there he met his sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Nora West Burge. He graduated Texas A&M with a degree in architecture and moved to El Paso, serving in the military as
a first lieutenant.
In 1963, the family moved to Baytown where he began a 47-year career with Davis and Burge Architecture and Burge and Lammers Architects. His work is seen throughout the town in schools, churches, homes, government buildings and most notably Sterling High School
where his children attended. He served as the director of the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, president of the Lion's Club and voted Boss of the Year by the Secretary Association. He was a faithful Christian and attended Memorial Baptist Church where he served
as a deacon, choir member and Sunday School teacher. He loved golf, card games and held a passion for classic cars. His friends and family testify he never spoke an ill word about or judged anyone; he radiated love and compassion.
He is survived by his children, Jenna Stroud and David Burge; grandchildren, Jamie Brett, Samuel Stroud, Paige Stroud, Blake Burge and Dillon Burge; sons-in-law, Ricky Stroud and Josiah Brett. He had many nieces and nephews and one grandchild, Levi Brett.
Flower donations can be sent to the church for the Saturday service.
