James Theodore Soules
(July 16, 1923 - September 25, 2011)

Memorial Services for James Theodore Soules, age 88, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011 in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown with visitation to follow the services.

J.T. Soules, a long time Cedartown resident died peacefully on September 25, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

James Theodore Soules was born on July, 16, 1923 in Goldthwaite, Texas, one of six children born to Luther Hugh and Blanche Harper Soules. He served during World War II as a B24 bomber pilot in the Army Air Corp, and later graduated with honors from Texas A & M University with a Masters Degree in Agronomy. He lived with his family for five years in Costa Rica and Colombia with the U.S. Agricultural Service and the Rockefeller Foundation assisting local farmers and ranchers to improve productivity, and he contributed many academic articles to Central America universities.

He worked for 35 years as International Vice-President and later President of Rome Plow Company in Cedartown, traveling extensively throughout the world. During the Vietnam War he played a leadership role in Rome Plow's efforts to assist the U.S. Army clear jungle during the Vietman War. In 1968 he received the U.S. Army's Outstanding Civilian Service Award for his work during that conflict.

Mr. Soules was married for 52 years to the late Aileen Graves Soules, mother of his three children. He is survived by his loving wife Jean Angel Soules, his son James T. Soules Jr, of Parkland, Fl, daughters Laura Lynn Soules Gundel of Cornelius, NC, and Alica Diane Soules Whitaker of Sharpsburg, GA, daughter-in-law Aline Espinosa Soules and sons-in-law Norman Gundel and Joseph Whitaker, grandsons James Theodore Soules III of Shanghai, China, Michael Soules of Parkland, Fl, Cpl. John Gundel of Charlotte, NC, and granddaughters Rev. Laura Gundel of Ft. Worth, TX, Nicole Soules and her husband Xavier Munoz of Miami, FL. Also surviving are his stepchildren Billy West of Dawson Springs, KY, Kathy and Eric North of Ingalls, IN, and Cynthia and Mike Hoggard of Rock Spring, GA, as well as step grandchildren Danny North, Jacob Burnett and Amanda Burnett. He is also survived by brothers Fred and Mary Soules of Woodway, TX and John and Dorothy Soules of Sundown, TX, and sister Janet Frame of College Station, TX, and sister-in-law Nettie Olla Soules of Tyler, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Aileen Graves Soules, brothers Luther Hugh Soules and Marion Edward Soules, brother-in-law William Frame and sisters-in-law Merle Soules and Sybil Soules.

J.T. Soules lived life to its fullest, made many friends throughout the world, loved his home and his garden, and was adored by his admiring family who always honor his memory.

The family respectfully request that flowers be omitted, and memorial conrtibutions be made to either the First Baptist Church Memorial Garden fund or the First United Methodist Church.

The Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. James Theodore Soules.
