Published in Houston Chronicle from August 9 to August 10, 2011

Frank M. Mandola
Frank Marion Mandola, born September 30, 1933 in Houston, Texas, went peacefully to his eternal rest, surrounded by his family, on Monday, August 8, 2011. Frank was the son of Mike Mandola of Santa Cristina, Sicily and Rose Caporina Mandola of Dickinson, Texas. After graduating from St. Thomas High School in 1951, he went on to attend Texas A&M University, class of '55, where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets and served in the Ross Volunteers.

In 1955 Frank married his high school sweetheart, Lena Dichiara Mandola. Shortly after, they moved to Virginia where he served as an officer in the United States Quarter Master Corps from 1956 - 1958. The couple returned to Houston, Texas where Frank began his career as a Certified Public Accountant, which he continued up to his death.

Frank is survived by his wife of 55 years and his seven children: Michael Mandola and wife, MaryBeth; Rose and husband John Raia Jr.; Donna and husband Vincent Adamo; Frannie and husband George Alderete; Lenette and husband Mike Foderetti; Joe Mandola and wife Susan; and Jenny and husband Einar Suter. His grandchildren: John Raia III, Frank Raia, Michelle and husband Nick Fuhrman, Dominick Adamo and wife Chelsea, Dana Mandola, Mary Kathryn and husband T.J. Tiller, Lena Foderetti, Jennifer Alderete, Michael Foderetti, Jr., Stephanie Alderete, Frank Michael Mandola, Nicholas Foderetti, Kathryn Suter, Anne Marie Mandola, Allison Suter, Kathleen Mandola, Elizabeth Suter and his Great-grandson, Graham Fuhrman. He is also survived by his brother Anthony Mandola and wife Genevieve, sister-in-law Frances and husband Vincent Quartaro, brother-in-law Michael Dichiara and wife Antoinette and brother-in-law Frank Corso, and many nephews and nieces.

Frank's life was filled with family, friends and laughter. He was a member of the Sacred Heart's Society of Little York, the Fifty Club and the Twenty Club. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and there was rarely an event with the Italian Community to which he did not give his time and talents. Frank was an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He loved to play a terrible round of golf and he enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He delighted in family vacations and travel. High lights of his year were going to watch his Fighting Texas Aggies, Whoop! We will miss him; he was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend.

Pallbearers are John Raia, III, Frank Raia, Dominick Adamo, Michael Foderetti, Jr., Frank Michael Mandola, Nicholas Foderetti, Michael Mandola, Carlo Corso, Joseph Corso and Joseph Dichiara. The honorary pallbearers are Michael Dichiara, Vincent Quartaro, Frank Corso and his dear lifelong friends and cousins, Roy Palermo, Ciro Lampassas and Joe Musachia.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3pm until 8pm on Thursday, August, 11, 2011, in the Earthman Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors with a Rosary at 7pm. The Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30am Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas, 77002, with the Very Reverend Lawrence W. Jozwiak, celebrant. Interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale.
