John Stuart Greener(1935 - 2011)
John Stuart Greener, 75, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011, at home surrounded by family after a long illness. Celebration of life: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Shady Oaks Country Club.

John was born Oct. 22, 1935, in Laredo at Fort McIntosh. A graduate of Huntsville High School, John attended San Antonio College and Texas A&M. He entered the Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in 1956, graduated from OCS, Class 61-C and Navigator School
Class 62-22, James Connally Air Force Base. He was chosen to go to Torrejon Air Base in Madrid, Spain, to train Spanish air force navigators. Upon discharge from the Air Force, John entered the U.S. Naval Reserve and received an honorable discharge as commander
in 1991. John began his commercial airline career flying for Braniff International, Capitol Airlines, Western Airlines and Trans Caribbean. He retired as captain for American Airlines in 1995 after 27 years of service.
After being single for 21 years, John met his wife, Lane, in 1988 on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. He often told her he was just waiting for the right one to come along. They were married July 31, 2004.
John enjoyed hunting, golfing and spending many hours with his standard poodles, Pepe and Misty.
The family wishes to express special thanks to his personal caregiver, Martha Walker, and the entire Vitas Hospice team for their excellent care of John.
Survivors: Wife, Lane W. Greener; daughter, Lisa J. Greener; stepdaughter, Holly Hawkins; sister, Jo Catherine Black and husband, John; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
