John W. Caple(1930 - 2011)
John W Caple, 80, passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, following a long illness. Funeral: Per John's request, a private graveside service was held Friday in Greenwood Memorial Park.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the TAMU Press, Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County or the charity of your choice.
John was born in Waco, the son of Ben and Etta Caple, and brother of Ben, who preceded him in death. John graduated from Texas A&M University with the Class of 52. He moved to Fort Worth where he began a lifelong career in the trailer industry, starting with
a job at Harry J. Windmiller & Co, Inc. As a couple, John and Mary Sue nurtured the company, expanding it to encompass Warehouses Inc. and Trailer Equipment Warehouses before finally becoming Caple-Shaw Industries, a partnership with son-in-law, Bill Shaw,
that operated in five states and Mexico.
John devoted much of his life to the advancement of TAMU. He served as president of the Association of Former Students; president of the Fort Worth A&M Club; 20 years on the Board of Visitors for TAMU Galveston, two years of which he served as chairman; and
20 years as a board member of the TAMU Press Advisory Council, retiring as chairman due to illness. Numerous other schools, organizations and individuals were also recipients of his generosity and service. Of note, John dedicated much of his time and support
to Casa Manana, and after nearly two decades of service he was appointed the vice president of development.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Henry Xiong.
Survivors: He leaves his wife of 59 years, Mary Sue; daughters, Margaret and Lindi; their husbands, Bill Shaw and Mike Dunbar; grandchildren, Seph Shaw, Andrew Caple-Shaw, John Shaw and his wife, Sarah, Kelli Turney and her husband, Matt; Erin Dunbar; and great-grandchildren,
Reid, Kadence and Michael Turney.
