Retirement News

Richard "Dick" Grossenbacher '67 March 7, 2011 10:04 PM

I am extremely pleased and proud to have recently been honored by being named a FELLOW member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

The FELLOW member grade was established in the year 2000 by NSPE to honor those active Society members who they believe have demonstrated exemplary service to their profession, their Society and their community.

I retired with 35 years of total federal service.  Initally two years with the U.S. Army in Germany (in Nike Hercules missiles), then 30 years at Kelly AFB in San Antonio where I got to thoroughly enjoy such diverse assignments as a mechanical and fluid systems engineer, packaging (design) engineer, Director of the DoD Dog Center (Yes DOG Center), Distribution Facility Manager, Transportation Chief, Engineering and Robotics Lab Chief, Manufacturing Division Chief, C-5 Chief Engineer and ending as T-37/T-38 Chief Engineer.  Following the BRAC at Kelly, I was pleased to be named the civilian chief of Aircraft Production Division at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, working with some extraordinarily dedicated folks in accomplishing the Air Force's deopt overhaul of the B-1, B-52, E-3 and KC-135 fleets and phase work on the Navy's E-6 fleet.

My wife Nancy (recently added to the class of '69) who attended A&M after we were married in 1966 began and operated her own business (The San Antonio School For The Performing Arts) for over 20 years, recently selling the business and joining me living the retired life.  She completed her degree at Sam Houston State after our return from Germany in 1970.

Our daugheter Robin Grossenbacher Womack '97 is a school counseller in the Cy-Fair district near Houston where she, her husband Ramsey '97 and two daughters, Alexis and Lauren reside.    Our other  daughter, Jenny Grossenbacher Annas,  an accomplished singer, dancer, actress and choreographer has just recently married and moved with her husband to a suburb of Chicago and is enjoying having "seasons" for the first time in her life...

Through it all, we reside at 15706 Bright Star in San Antonio (78232) and are listed in the San Antonio phone book.

Looking forward to the next reunion...hope to see all the old gang there...and I do mean "old"...

We would love to hear from you...

Richard W. (Dick) Grossenbacher '67, P.E.
