Edwin Reed
Edwin Leonard Reed, 82, passed away on Dec. 22, 2010. Edwin was born Jan. 16, 1928, to Leonard and Icie Reed. He attended Tarleton State University and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1950. He married Adele Crowe in 1954, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage together on their ranch near McMahan.

Besides his farming and ranching, Edwin was active in many community groups including 4-H, the Jeffrey Cemetery, and the McMahan Water Board. Edwin was also an active member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church for most of his adult life. Despite fighting three cancer treatments and Parkinson’s disease, Edwin continued to work hard at his ranch raising his signature Santa Gertrudis cattle until he was 82.

Edwin was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Reed; his mother, Icie Reed; his sister, Leota Henkel; his brother, Jarrell Reed; and his wife, Adele Crowe Reed.

Edwin is survived by his four children: Joe Reed, of Austin, Lance Reed, of Houston, Vivian Stenseth and husband, Michael, of Bryan, and Marilyn Gaeta and husband, Michael, of San Antonio; six grandchildren: Stephen Stenseth, Daniel Reed, Justin Reed, Katherine Reed Brown, Tyler Reed and Molly Gaeta; and four great-grandchildren: Nathaniel Stenseth, Daniel Reed II, Devyhn Reed and Axton Brown.

Visitation was held Dec. 26, 2010, at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Services were held December 27, 2010 at McCurdy Memorial Chapel. Interment followed to Jeffery Cemetery.
