Alfred DeLoach Martin Jr.
DALLAS Alfred DeLoach Martin Jr. passed away December 25, 2010. He was born November 21, 1929, in Dallas, Texas, to Alfred DeLoach Martin and Vera Hartt Martin, both from Marshall, Texas.

He attended Highland Park schools and graduated in 1947. He entered Texas A&M, where he served as president of his sophomore class, member of the Ross Volunteers and corps commander of Texas A&M Cadet Corps. He graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He then attended Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), where he received a masters degree in industrial administration.

Upon graduation from Carnegie Tech, he received a commission as second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea as commander of C Battery of the 268th Field Artillery Battalion (8" Howitzers). His unit was redeployed to Japan in early 1956.

He returned to Dallas in 1957 and began his career with Central Engineering Supply Co., serving as chairman and CEO. He also served as chairman of Trinity National Bank. He was a director of Cleco Corporation, Mercantile National Bank (MBank), Galveston-Houston Co., Republic Insurance Co., Wyly Corp. (later UCCEL), Exchange Park Bank, Anderson Industries, Triton Oil and Gas, Trinity Natl Bank, US Brass Co., Park Cities Bank, Bank and Trust, Hydrometals Inc. and Burgess Industries.

DeLoach was past president of Dallas Zoological Society and past president of Brook Hollow Golf Club. He also served for eight years as a trustee for Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

DeLoach was married to Nancy Knight Martin, mother of his children. He was then married to Amelia Anderson Martin for 30 years until her death in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Joni Westbrook Martin; stepmother, Myron Martin; children, William Littlejohn Martin and Camille Martin; stepchildren, John C. Fuller, Amelia "Mimi" Fuller Martin, Kevin and Elizabeth Westbrook, Laura Jo Westbrook Jones and Brian Jones and Brian and Holly Westbrook; and grandchildren, Cash Allan Jones, Audrey and Annabel Westbrook.

A memorial will be held at 10 a.m. today, January 5, 2011, at St. Michaels and All Angels Church.
