WILLIAM H. BORCHERS
NEW BRAUNFELS - William Henry "Bill" Borchers passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, in New Braunfels. He was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Lavaca County, and lived an active 87 years. He was the eldest of four sons of Willie and Mary Schaeg Borchers and grew
up in the cattle ranching business.
He graduated from Yoakum High School in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the infantry during World War II. After returning home from service, he completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University. He enrolled in Baylor Law School, graduating
in 1952.
After completing his education, he went to work for Allstate Insurance Company as a claims adjuster. Upon passing the bar exam, he worked as Assistant District Attorney for Harris County. He later joined the law firm of Carl & Lee in Houston.
He met and married Joyce Word on June 30, 1956. In the Fall of 1959, the family moved to New Braunfels where Bill began his own legal practice.
Bill practiced law for 56 years in the state of Texas and was the oldest practicing attorney in New Braunfels.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Joyce on March 1, 1991.
He is survived by two daughters, Marcia McGlothlin and her husband Forrest of New Braunfels, and Bonnie Duettra and her husband Andrew of Santa Fe, N.M. His grandchildren are Amber Finnegan and her husband Brendan, Bonnie McGlothlin, Sydney Duettra, and Hannah
Duettra. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Craig Finnegan. Other survivors include his brother, Dr. Charles Borchers of Victoria, his brother, O. R. "Jimmy" Borchers and wife Betty Ann of Yoakum, and his brother, Marion "Jack" Borchers and wife Robbie
of New Braunfels.
Visitation will be at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of New Braunfels. Interment will follow at Guadalupe
Valley Memorial Park.
