Funeral services for Charles B. Walker, 49, former Danbury mayor and school board trustee, were set for 2pm today [3/26/1981] in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury.

A wake was held Wednesday night.

Walker died Sunday night (March 22, 1981) of a heart attack while returning from a fishing trip.

Walker graduated from Danbury High School in 1950 and he served as a U.S. Marine during 1950-52.  He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1958 as a mechanical engineer and was employed at Amoco Chemical Co. as a senior mechanical engineer.

Walker was mayor of Danbury from 1972 to 1974 and served as a trustee of the Danbury Independent School District from 1976 to 1979.  He also served on the school district’s Tax Equalization Board.

He had been president of the Tri-Bayou Little League and member of the Danbury Band Boosters Club, National Rifle Association, Texas Game Wardens Association and was Danbury campaign manager from U.S. Rep. Ron Paul.

Walker was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was active in an effort to obtain tennis courts for Danbury High School. He also was a member of the Former Students Association of Texas A&M.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Walker of Danbury; two sons, Jeff Walker of Danbury and Charles Walker Jr. of LaPorte; a daughter, Peggy Walker of Danbury; a brother, Teddy Walker of Alvin; a sister, Betty Ann Schelley of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and his mother, Estelle Walker, of Danbury.

Pallbearers are Frank Larvin, Tommie Clawson, J.T. Clawson, Vincent Hechler, John Pasko and Bill Gulledge.

Honorary pallbearers are Howard Jasper, Bob Milligan, Lonnie Lostak, Greg Mastoesian, Lloyd Matthews and Jean Kreuz.

Father Orlando will conduct the mass at the funeral services and Gerald Peltier will give the eulogy.
