John Stanley Mearns John Stanley Mearns, 78, of Liberty died on June 2, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. Visitation will be Fri., June 4, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Allison Funeral Service Chapel in Liberty. Services will be held on Sat., June 4 at
2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Liberty with Rev. Jay Barnes and Rev. Seann M. Duffin officiating. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Liberty.
John was born in Houston, Texas. He has lived his entire life in Liberty, graduating from Liberty High School in 1950 and from Texas A & M University in 1954. He spent time in the U. S. Army where he was a tank commander. He was an insurance broker/agent. John
enjoyed Aggie Football and fishing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberty where he served as song leader for the Mens Bible Class. John was very active in civic affairs. He was a member of the Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, the
Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion Post of Dayton.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Wm. O. and Lotty Mearns; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Betty Mearns; sister, Eleanor Mearns; and son, James Richard 'Ricky' Mearns. He is survived by his wife, Dana Mearns; daughter, Mary Rushton and husband,
Stan; granddaughters, Samantha and Hannah Rushton; brother-in-law, Dan Irland; and nephews, Craig and David Mearns.
The family has request in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Rick Mearns Memorial Scholarship at First Liberty National Bank, the First United Methodist Church or the Polycystic Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Allison Funeral
