Travis L. Patterson '98

A native of Houston Texas, Travis L Patterson enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1994 and served with 1stBn 23rd Marines in Houston while attending Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Marine 2ndLt and went to U.S. Navy flight school where he earned his Naval Aviator wings as an AH-1W Super-Cobra pilot in 2002. Throughout his 15 years as a Cobra Pilot, Travis deployed overseas five times in support Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terror. In addition, he served tours as an AH-1W and AH-1Z instructor pilot, operational test pilot and would serve on the first deployment of the AH-1Z, the Marine Corps’ newest attack helicopter. After his final overseas deployment as an AH-1Z pilot in 2016, Travis was the recipient of the 2016 Order of Daedalians USMC exceptional pilot of the year and the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Aviator of the year. He was conferred a master’s degree in Military Operational Art and Science from the U.S. Air Force Command and Staff College in 2013. In 2016, Travis was selected and reported to Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), the U.S. Presidential Helicopter squadron. During his four years with HMX-1 he served in the operations and maintenance departments while flying the VH-3D and VH-60N in support of the President and Vice-President across the United States and multiple overseas trips in support of Presidential travel. He would serve his last year at HMX as a “Marine One”, the aircraft commander for the President’s Helicopter. Travis accepted his final set of Marine Corps Orders in 2020 and would spend his last three years at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Texas. Until his retirement in 2023, Travis served as the Executive Officer of Marine Aviation Training Support Group Twenty-Two and as a T-6B and T-44C instructor pilot. In his 29 years in the Marine Corps and more than 22 years as a Naval Aviator, Travis accumulated more than 4500 flight hours in ten different aircraft and as a flight instructor in six. Since his Marine Corps Retirement, Travis has served as the Chief Executive Officer of HALO-Flight, INC; a South Texas based non-profit air ambulance company dedicated to serving South Texas and the Coastal Bend Community. He and his wife Tosha have been married for more than 24 years and have their home in Corpus Christi where they raise their two high school age children.
