Michael "Mike" Hagemeyer '78 December 7, 2009 12:00 AM

Michael W. 'Mike' Hagemeyer '78, 53, of Longview (formerly of Fort Worth) died April 1, 2009. He was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Beirut when the building occupied by the Marines was attacked by a terrorist bombing and more than 200 Marines were killed. He is written about in the book The Root by Eric Hammel for his work in recovering the wounded and dead and his picture is on the cover with the Marines who survived the attack. He was honorably discharged due to medical conditions when he was diagnosed with Huntington's disease. Survivors include his mother and three sisters.
