While students volunteered in the Bryan-College Station community through student-led The Big Event, this past March, the Dallas, Denton and San Francisco Bay Area A&M Clubs participated in their own Former Student Big Event service projects. This initiative facilitates A&M Clubs giving back to their communities.
The Dallas A&M Club chose the North Texas Food Bank for their volunteer project, working on an assembly line to pack and box food for the local community partners. Around 50 people totally worked on the assembly line, and half of them were former students.
The Denton County A&M Club chose to volunteer with LovePacs Flower Mound, an organization that serves over 18 communities in North Texas by providing food to children in public schools dealing with food insecurity.
On the West Coast, the Bay Area Aggies served breakfast to about 120 LifeMove Mountain View community residents, with 15 Aggies and their spouses in attendance.
“Participating in the Big Event is a perfect opportunity to make a difference and foster camaraderie with our fellow Aggies,” said Nicole Van Zandt ’89, Denton County A&M Club activities chair Nicole Van Zandt ’89. “The Big Event is a very selfless way to contribute, make a difference and strengthen Aggie fellowship … it’s a WIN-WIN!”
Chartered A&M Clubs through The Association of Former Students allow Aggies to stay engaged with the Aggie Network after graduating and continue impacting their communities.
