Willard C. "Wil" Sholar, Jr.

July 30, 1930 - February 20, 2024

Wil Sholar, Jr., age 93, passed away on February 20, 2024. He was born on July 30, 1930, in Pocomoke City, Maryland to Willard C. Sholar, Sr. and Alice Weaver Sholar. Wil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, having immense pride in the accomplishments of all the members of his family.

In 1949, Wil graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA and then attended Texas A&M University, where he proudly served in the Corps of Cadets and graduated with the class of 1953. After college, Wil served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Ohio and Japan. Following his military service, he began a 55-year career as an architect with Morgan, Hill, O'Neal, and Sutton. One of his many accomplishments as an architect was being on the design team and acted as the on-site architect during construction of the Shreveport Regional Airport re-model in the early 1970's.

Wil was an avid tennis player and played weekly until well into his 70's. He was also a master at carpentry and spent many years adding features to the house that he designed. He worshipped at Saint Paul Episcopal Church where he proudly designed the current bell tower.

Wil is survived by his children: Valrie Sholar Odom (James), Steven Sholar (Cathey) and Christopher Sholar (Sandy), 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and special friend, Annie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years and mother of his children, Bobbie Boydstun Sholar, second wife, Ruth Pierce Sholar, his sisters, Daphne Scheider Thompson and Dale Middleton and their husbands.

The family would like to thank the staff at Garden Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and LifePath Hospice Care Services for the wonderful care that they provided. Following a memorial service at a later date, Wil will be interred in the columbarium at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
