James Wesley "Jim" Cosby

October 5, 1940 - March 9, 2024

James Wesley Cosby of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2024, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Jim was born October 5, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas to Lowell Wesley Cosby and Blanche Juanita (Coleman) Cosby.

Jim graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1958. He attended Texas A&M University (’62) and was a loyal Aggie all his days. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy as a flight officer. A blind date with Sharon Lynn Culver resulted in a loving 61-year marriage. He was a devoted father to their two children, daughter Cindy and son Clay. His naval career took him and his family all around the country, and he retired from the Navy in 1987 with the rank of Captain. He and Sharon retired to Florida in 1995, but the call of Texas was strong, and they moved to New Braunfels in 2004. Jim was passionate about the Green Bay Packers and meticulously maintaining his cars, and his yard was always the greenest and most lush in the neighborhood.

The family would like to thank the staff at EdenHill nursing facility for taking care of Jim in his last few months.

He will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Jim is survived by his wife Sharon (Culver) Cosby, daughter Cynthia Appleby (Reid) of Wells, ME; son Clayton Cosby (Christine) of Wicomico Church, VA; grandchildren Lindsay Appleby Janco (Alex) of Woburn, MA, and Reid Appleby IV (Tatiana McIntyre) of Durham, NC; sister Nancy (Cosby) Whittemore of Stephenville, TX, two nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert L. Cosby.
