Aggie engineers honored at BEYA awards

Dr. Ken Washington '82 was named the 2024 Black Engineer of the Year and Dr. Shavonn Watkins '18 was honored as Most Promising Scientist by Career Communications Group at the 38th BEYA (Be Everything You Are) STEM Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

Washington, a nuclear engineer, is chief technology and innovation officer at Medtronic, a medical technology firm that delivers high-tech solutions to the world’s health needs. Washington credits Texas A&M and the Department of Nuclear Engineering with giving him the foundation for his success: “I’ve done some pretty awesome things in my career, and that is because Texas A&M equipped me.” Read more about him in the upcoming May-June 2024 issue of Texas Aggie magazine. 

Watkins is an expert in international and domestic agricultural development in the civil sector of Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc., a Fortune 500 consulting firm in McLean, Virginia. She serves as a science, engineering and technology advisor and thought leader for federal, state, nonprofit, for-profit and philanthropic clients on global food security, current and emerging agricultural pests, and sustainable agriculture-based solutions in the face of climate change.
