Lacey Byron Lowry

December 7, 1940 - January 20, 2024

Lacey Byron Lowry, 83, of Bay City, Texas passed away January 20, 2024. He was born December 7, 1940 in Hull, Texas to the late Edgar “Pat” Lowry and Eva Loyce Smith Lowry.

Lacey grew up in Palacios, Texas. He had many fond memories especially being lead singer for the Joker’s Band. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting. He remained a fanatical Aggie his whole life. He practiced accounting in Bay City, Texas, opening his own practice in 1975. He retired in 2015. He worked in the community and was a member of the Bay City Kiwanis serving as a Lieutenant Governor. He was a man of faith and a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He served his church in many ways: financially, grounds keeper, altar boy to Father Casey, a member of ACTS and a member of Knights of Columbus. He loved being a Eucharistic minister and visiting house bound and nursing home friends. He loved his family. He took an active part in all of his children’s activities. He loved to travel. His family vacations were his favorite. Whether it was Lake McQueeney, Frio River or Wimberley, he cherished these special times with his family. Manno was always the watch dog on these trips, making sure the grandkids were safe and sound.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jo Blackwell Lowry; daughters Julie Estlinbaum (Craig) and Jill Lowry; son Scott Lowry (Cindy); sisters Sharon Apadoca and Debbie Strickland; brothers George Lowry and Patrick Lowry; grandchildren Lacey Gann Buckley, David Owen, Garret Gann, Johanna Perkins, Shelby Estlinbaum and Alyssa Lamberti and great grandchildren Emma Suggs, Grace Nelson, Abbygail Owen, Oliver Perkins, Walker Buckley, Paisley Gann and Claire Perkins. He is also survived by his beloved brother and sister in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert (Bob) Lowry, his brother in law, Bobby Waddell, and his Godson, Jordan Carr.

His family will always remember and cherish these words that Lacey often gave out: “I love you. I’m proud of you. Text when you get home and keep your wits about you”.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM with Rev. Steven Vacek officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garret Gann, David Owen, Kevin Watson, Nathan Carr, Mitch Abshier and Paul Sliva.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Cross Catholic School and BCISD Educational Foundation.
