Lawrence Charles "Larry" Schilhab, Jr.

August 5, 1947 - January 14, 2024

Lawrence (Larry) Charles Schilhab, Jr., passed away with his family at his side on Sunday afternoon, January 14, 2024, at the age of 76. Larry was born on August 5, 1947, in Victoria, Texas, to his loving parents, Lawrence and Virginia Schilhab, and was their oldest child of ten.

Larry spent his early childhood years living in Victoria, Texas. In 1960, Larry and his family moved to Conroe. He attended Travis Junior High School and was in the second class to graduate from the newly opened Conroe High School in 1965.

Larry attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Petroleum Engineering degree in 1969. While at Texas A&M, he was a member of the Civilian Student Council and became President his senior year. Larry was proud to be an Aggie and proud of the Aggie reputation and traditions.

In 1968, while doing an internship in Omaha, Nebraska, Larry met Linda who eventually became his beloved wife. They joyfully welcomed two daughters to their family, Melissa and Jennifer.

Larry’s career in the petroleum industry led him to various assignments with a number of energy related companies all across the world, beginning in the States, to Canada, Paris, Jakarta, Singapore, and Oman. He was well respected throughout the industry and well-liked by his coworkers and colleagues. In January 2007, Larry returned to the States when he retired from Transocean and made his home on Lake Conroe.

Upon retirement, Larry and Linda traveled the world extensively. They enjoyed trips and cruises to the Holy Land, the Falkland Islands to see the penguins, the South Pacific, the Panama Canal, and many more trips. He prided himself on depicting his travels with his photography and oral presentations. While living overseas, he also enjoyed playing tour guide to family and friends when they came for a visit.

He had a genuine care and concern for others, and being the oldest of a large family, Larry was always willing to assist his parents with the care of his siblings. As a father and grandfather, he loved spending time with his two daughters and their families. “Grandpa”, as his grandchildren called him, enjoyed supporting his grandchildren by attending their school programs and performances. Celebrating special occasions together with the family was a particularly happy time for him!

Larry attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe. He took pleasure in giving back to his April Sound community and was an active member of the April Sound Men’s Club, Wine Society, Travel Photo Club, POA Board, and past Chairman of the April Sound Board of Governors and served on a local MUD Board.
