Roll Call Tribute

Stacey Rugh '92 January 18, 2024 1:36 PM updated: January 18, 2024 1:56 PM

Stacey Lynn (Cowart) Rugh

December 14, 1969 - January 14, 2024

Stacey Lynn Rugh was reunited with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on January 14, 2023, after a courageous, long-fought battle with cancer.

Born Stacey Lynn Cowart on December 14, 1969, in San Antonio, Texas, Stacey spent her childhood in the Houston area. She graduated from North Shore High School where she was a beloved member of the Scarlets Dance Team. “Once a Scarlet, Always a Scarlet.”  She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Texas A&M University in 1992.

Hardworking and hospitable, with a love for entertaining, it’s fitting that Stacey was instrumental in opening the Hyatt Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas, in 1993. In 1997, Stacey found her way back to her beloved Aggieland where she built a career, a community, and a legacy.

Stacey served as the Regional Marketing Manager and Regional Public Affairs Manager for Cox Communications. In 2006, she began a 17 year career with Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University System where she worked in a variety of marketing and communications positions within the Texas A&M University Visitor’s Center, Texas A&M University Dining, the Texas A&M University System Office of Sponsored Research, and the System’s Department of Information Technology.

Stacey was a beloved member of Christ Church in College Station, Texas, and was active in several local organizations including Junior League of Bryan-College Station, The Brazos Valley Children’s Museum, International Association of Business Communicators, OPAS Gala, and Young Men’s Service League. Energetic and full of life, Stacey spent over 25 years as a Jazzercise instructor enriching the lives of others through fun and fitness. One of her most favorite pastimes was rolling dice with the lovely ladies in her monthly Bunco group.

Stacey’s character was on display with the impressive rolodex of friends and colleagues who visited her in her final days; the perfect sendoff for an extroverted woman who deeply treasured deep, meaningful relationships with others.

By far, Stacey’s proudest accomplishment was her son Cameron. One of their favorite places to be together was sipping Topo Chico and eating crab legs at the beach. She gifted Cam her piercing blue eyes, and undoubtedly instilled in him her appreciation of good food, and her love for Christmas and the Fightin’ Texas Aggies.

Stacey is preceded in death by her mother Carol Pierce and her father Ronald Cowart.

She is survived by her son, Cameron “Cam” Rugh; her beloved furbaby, Duke; brother, Dr. Richard Cowart and wife Bonnie; and nephew Grant Cowart, of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Stacey’s family and friends want to thank the selfless nurses of Traditions Hospice and the gentle caregivers of Jo’s Peaceful Heart who made her comfortable in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, Cameron has asked his mother’s memory be kept alive by making donations to the caregivers who cared for Stacey. Contributions can be made via Venmo using @Stacey_Rugh_Memorial or at any Truist Bank location by referencing Acct: Cameron Rugh - 1543 - Caregivers of Jo’s Peaceful Heart.
