Gary Lackey '76 November 22, 2023 11:49 AM updated: November 22, 2023 11:55 AM

Gary Floyd Lackey, DVM

June 26, 1953 - November 3, 2023

The Lord called Gary Floyd Lackey, 70, of College Station, TX home on Friday, November 3, 2023, with his beloved wife Diane and children by his side.

His life was well lived, and he was well loved!

This selfless, loving, and faithful man of God has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.

Family was the pivotal essence of Gary’s life. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father and grandfather to our family. He has been a major presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren. As an admired and adored father and grandfather to his cherished family, he also filled that role for many others over the past 40 years.

Born in Muleshoe, TX, Gary grew up working on a farm where he was molded into a hardworking, dedicated, faithful and loving man. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University and Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine where he met his wife (as he called her, “The Beautiful Diane”). After graduating, they established and operated Highway 30 Veterinary Clinic in 1981 where he continued practicing as veterinarian up until he became ill in September of this year.

He had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith to his dying breath.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Lackey, sister, Rena Hollaway and father-in-law, Perry Biles.

Survivors include his father, Homer Lackey, wife of 44 years, Diane Lackey, daughter, Ashley Murdock (Brad), son, Brazos Lackey (Nina), daughter Dana DuBois; 7 grandchildren; Dawson Murdock, Braylee Murdock, Cooper Murdock, Piper Lackey, Kathryn Lackey (with another Lackey baby on the way) and Evangeline DuBois, brother Stacy Lackey (Reda), brother Jesse Lackey (Jan), mother-in-law, Lucile Biles, sister-in-law Charlotte Mathews (Billy) and sister-in-law, Kathy Biles Rogers (Cedric).

He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gary will be forever remembered for his unshakable faith in Christ, selfless dedication to his family, words of wisdom, “true stories,” caring, generous heart and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven with Jesus and our Heavenly Father as well as loved ones who have passed.

All are welcome for visitation to take place at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home & Crematory, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan, TX 77801 on Wednesday, November 8 from 5-7 p.m.

A Funeral will be celebrated at First Baptist Church Bryan, 3100 Cambridge Dr., Bryan, TX 77802 on Thursday, November 9 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider donating to Hope Pregnancy Center located at 205 Brentwood Dr. E, College Station, TX 77840.
