Roll Call Tribute

James "Jim" McGlothlin Jr. '60 August 18, 2023 12:39 PM updated: August 18, 2023 12:46 PM

James Ora "Jim" McGlothlin

August 10, 1938 - July 31, 2023

Jim was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 10, 1938, to Bettie and Jim McGlothlin.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeanette; sister Maurice Bass and niece Karen Hannigan (Kurt) and daughter Claire; niece Laura Bryant (George) and children Graham, Justin and Lydia; mother-in-law Alice Brown Rosson (Bill); and brother-in-law Albert Brown (Debbie) and son Albert, IV.  He cherished his Godchildren -- Tammy Riddle, Karin Perez, Rev. Collin Powell, Jackson Powell and Lucy Landsman.

Besides God, family and special friends, Jim loved The Fighting Texas Aggies--especially Aggie football. He attended Rice University on a baseball scholarship, but quickly saw the error of his ways and transferred to Texas A&M University and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He was a true Aggie for the rest of his life. He also loved golf and enjoyed Astros baseball and Texans football.

Jim had a very successful career in sales & management with Ingersoll-Rand Co. and as an executive officer of Crawford Enterprises. Jim always had a dream of owning his own company and fulfilled his dream by establishing McGlothlin, Inc., a company that involved the sale, leasing and installation of large natural gas compressor units to the oil and gas industry.

Jim loved the Lord -- he grew up attending Christ Church Cathedral and served as an acolyte for many years. He served as lay reader, counter and Chalicer in the Episcopal Church and never missed a 7:45 a.m. service on the front row. He started a Bible Fellowship group at Champions Golf Club (Links Fellowship) and was a Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leader. His desire to help others extended to tutoring many children of friends in basic math to calculus. He also taught algebra and geometry for those working on their GED.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. Contributions in Jim's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
