Phillip George Martinez, Jr. 
December 29, 1954 – July 10, 2023 

We are heartbroken to announce the death of Phillip George Martinez Jr. who passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2023 in El Paso, Texas at the age of 68.

Phillip was a graduate of Austin High School (’74) and Texas A&M University (’79). He taught drafting and computer technologies for the El Paso Independent School District from 1979-2014. Phillip was the head football, basketball, and track coach at Morehead Middle School where he also taught drafting from 1980-1993. He then transitioned to teaching computer technologies at Franklin High School from 1993-2014. Phillip’s pride was in his work and he shared his passion for teaching with thousands of students and student-athletes over his 35 year career.

He is survived by his wife Donna Martinez, his sons Arthur Valiant and Phillip Marston and his daughter in law Gabby Gardener-Marston and his grandchildren Jericho Dante Marston and Lilith Aristeia Marston. Phillip also leaves behind his step-mother Janna Magee, sister Clarissa Martinez, his brothers Larry and Rodney Martinez and his brother in law Charles Starr.

His service will take place on Wednesday, July 19th from 5pm-8pm with rosary prayer at 6pm at Martin Funeral Home, located at 128 N. Resler Drive.
