March 23, 1960 - May 13, 2023
Margaret Sanders McKenzie of Gainesville, Virginia passed away May 13, 2023, at the age of 63.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan to Jack and Blanche Sanders on March 23, 1960, Margaret travelled the world as a proud Army brat, growing up in places from Germany to Texas. Margaret celebrated 37 years of marriage to Garrett McKenzie with whom she had three children and countless dogs, cats, and one infamous rat.
Margaret was a die-hard Aggie, graduating from Texas A&M University in 1982. She also received a master’s degree from George Mason University. Margaret was a dedicated elementary school teacher, teaching little ones from pre-kindergarten to third grade for over 25 years. She loved gardening, meeting with her book club, making design improvements in her home, and spending time with her friends and family.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Garrett, children Theresa (Scott Moses), Ann Marie, and Christopher (Ericka Maximous), her two grandchildren Thomas and Alice Moses, and her sisters Mary Elizabeth, Florence Ann, and Catherine.
Margaret’s family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of the UVA Prince William Medical Center’s Critical Care Unit for their compassionate treatment of Margaret and her family during this difficult transition.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Monday, May 22, 2023, 1pm at All Saints Catholic Church. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a reception at the Brentsville Hall, 9915 Discovery Blvd. Manassas, VA 20109. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
