Mark Gideon Goode, Jr. 
August 12, 1921 - June 18, 2023 

Mark Gideon Goode, Jr., 101 years old went home to be with the Lord on June 18th, 2023.

Although his parents lived in Dallas, they were visiting family in Quinlan, Texas, on August 12, 1921, when Mark was born. He grew up in Dallas and was a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1942. He was commissioned in the Army in 1942 and served in World War II with the 1016th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company, European Theater.

With his civil engineering degree, Mark joined the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation in 1947. He worked his entire career there, serving as engineer-director from 1980 to his retirement in 1986. Mark’s leadership made an impact on TxDOT, with initiatives such as a recruiting and training program for women and minorities, the Don’t Mess with Texas anti-litter campaign, and the Adopt a Highway program. In addition, he was honored by national and regional organizations of highway officials, winning their highest award. After retirement Mark and Lucille returned to Dallas and their beloved Northridge Presbyterian Church, where they were very active.

Mark is survived by his son, Scott M. Goode and his wife Wanda Goode, his daughter-in-law Dianne Goode, his niece Linda Goode, seven grandchildren Mark IV and Alex Goode, Christopher and Dianne Irwin, Hunter Michael Carl Goode, Scott Goode Jr., Margaret Goode, Catherine Goode and Charles and Allison Goode, and five great grandchildren, Mark V and Micah Drew Goode, and Wesley, Connor, and Shepherd Irwin.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 79 years Lucille McDermott Goode, his mother Nora Maier Goode, his father Dr. Mark Goode, Sr. his son Mark Gideon Goode III, and his brother Dr. James E Goode and his wife, Nancy Goode. He will be missed by his family, friends, fellow members of the Northridge Presbyterian church as well as colleagues of the Texas Department of Transportation. In their later years Mark and Lucille were loved and cared for by wonderful caregivers Keith McNeal and faithful and loving caregivers from Griswald Home Care.

A celebration of life will be held at Northridge Presbyterian Church on July 8th at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park on July 10th at 10:30 am.
