Roll Call Tribute

Wallace Kleb '55 June 5, 2023 1:02 PM updated: June 6, 2023 3:28 PM

Wallace Lee Kleb

November 4, 1933 - May 30, 2023

Wallace Lee Kleb, DVM, 89, of Houston, Texas was called to his Heavenly home, Tuesday, May 30, 2023, to join his bride, Evelyn, to celebrate their 70th Wedding Anniversary together.

Wallace was born on November 4, 1933, in Houston, Texas to Henry and Rosina (Zahn) Kleb, and was a loving brother to his baby sister, Delores Rosina (Kleb) Quin. Wallace graduated from John Reagan High School in 1952 and he was Valedictorian of Texas A&M University in 1955 and Valedictorian of the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1957.

Wallace, fondly called “Wally” by his family and friends, was blessed with a photographic memory and a sharp wit, both of which served him well in his career of veterinary medicine and throughout his life in general. In high school and college, Wallace excelled in academics and track, earning many outstanding awards. His love for running continued late in life until physical limitations caused him to have to stop. Wally was also an avid outdoorsman, loving to bird hunt and fish with his many dear friends, all of whom can tell numerous stories of their adventures with Wally! During the early years of his veterinary career, Wallace was on the leading edge for the development of the first emergency veterinary clinics in the Houston area which have gone on to be a source of blessing to all animal lovers. Wallace loved all animals, and even joked that maybe he should expand his veterinary services to include birds because then he could just eat any of his mistakes! Wallace sold his veterinary practice in 1995 and retired, spending most of his free time doing what he loved…bird hunting and fishing!

Wallace met his love, Evelyn Mae Meyer Kleb, in elementary school and their love grew drawing them to marry on May 30, 1953. Evie, as he lovingly called her, was always by his side through college years, as he grew his veterinary practice, and even on dove hunts and some fishing outings! Wallace’s love for Evie was dimmed only by his enormous love for His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Wallace was baptized in December 3, 1933, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Houston and was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston where he served as an Elder for many years. His love for the Lord and his deep faith were at the core of who he was and shone through to all he encountered.

Being called home by the Lord to enter his glory, Wallace is survived by his sons Steve (Christina) Kleb and Lee (Marchetta) Kleb, grandchildren Darin (Ken) Kleb, Jared Kleb, and Reese Kleb, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.

A funeral service in Wallace’s honor will be held on June 13, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston. The family will greet friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm, followed by the service at 12:00pm officiated by Pastor Laurence White. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Wallace’s honor to:
