Kevin Wayne Smith
October 12, 1973 - May 6, 2023

Kevin Wayne Smith of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023. He was born on October 12, 1973, in Houston, Texas, to Gary Wayne Smith and Sharon Lee Smith. He grew up playing soccer, baseball, and generally finding ways to make mischief. He was nicknamed “EQ” for “Earthquake” by his paternal grandfather for his tendency to leave a mess of broken, torn, and misplaced items in his wake. He was a daredevil and always willing to try something new. He also loved being home, playing video games, and watching cooking shows. He loved to cook and continued to cook into adulthood. It was always a treat to have a meal prepared by Kevin. No one will ever beat his meatball recipe!

Kevin graduated from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston, Texas, where he played soccer, baseball, and football. He then went on to graduate from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He worked for Dell Technologies for many years and more recently joined the team at Amazon Web Services. Kevin believed in working hard and playing hard. He loved to be spontaneous, and his enthusiasm was infectious.

Kevin lived the words “Carpe Diem” and inspired those around him to do the same. He loved the beach, the mountains, and adventures of all kinds. He was an avid Aggie fan and supporter. He loved sports, his Aggies (Whoop!), the Georgia Bulldogs (Go Dawgs!), but most of all he loved his family. His eyes lit up when talking about his wife Melissa, and his two sons, Carson and Jaxson. He coached Carson’s baseball teams over the years, volunteered at school and other events. He was an amazing caregiver and best friend to Jaxson. He was the best partner in life and father anyone could have. He believed in thriving not just surviving.

Kevin was a devoted husband, father, son, and uncle. He was loved and admired in many circles. He was generous with others, both in terms of time and resources. He always went out of his way to help people and would never hesitate to lend a hand. Kevin is proceeded in death by his father, Gary Smith. He is survived by his wife Melissa Schumann Smith, sons Carson and Jaxson, his mother Sharon Smith, sister Missy Smith Bunner and her husband Joe, sister Nicole Smith Roberts and her husband Raymond, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Kevin was loved by all that knew him, especially the Schumann family. Kevin’s dogs have always been part of his family. He had a special knack when it came to adopting the right rescues for the family. He just knew how to pick out unconditional love. Koda and Murphy will miss their daily walks and wrestling matches with Kevin.

Kevin will forever be close to our hearts. He left us way too soon and will be missed tremendously. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 1:30 at Cielo at Castle Pines. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to https://globalgenes.org/ or a charity of your choice.
