Stories Of Impact: Gisele Flaming '22

Aggies helping Aggies: For over 140 years, and continuing now, The Association provides help in time of need. From helping A&M professors take their classes online and keeping student workers on the payroll, to making sure a student could stay enrolled and the sudden need to put Muster online-only for the first time in history, Association donors make it possible.

Stories of Impact is a video series highlighting people, groups and organizations that have benefited from the generosity of donors to The Association of Former Students.

This episode tells the story of Gisele Flaming ’22, a mother of five and primary caregiver to her husband, a wounded Marine Corps veteran. Gisele is one of 1,227 students who received an academic scholarship in the fall of 2019 because of gifts to The Association of Former Students.

Gisele dropped out of high school sophomore year due to a tumultuous personal life. Years later, she made the difficult decision to continue her education and earn her GED, while raising four children and supporting her husband through his recovery. In 2017, not long after she had her fifth child, she enrolled in classes at a local community college and discovered her passion and talent for math. Two years later, with the help of an academic scholarship, she enrolled at Texas A&M to pursue a degree in Geophysics while her husband finished his master's degree.

The journey toward a brighter future has not been easy for Gisele and her family. Her husband has struggled to find a job since graduating and Gisele faced health issues in January leading her to question if she would be able to finish the semester. Nevertheless, Gisele finished her second semester with a 4.0 GPA, and she and her family remain hopeful for the future.

Because of the Aggie Network, Gisele is able to continue earning her degree with the knowledge and comfort that she will be able to support her family as well.
